Keen on Sustainability? Time for a Sample Sale
Planning a wedding can sometimes feel like a guilt ridden activity. We see the bush burning down around us and hear David Attenborough’s pleas to save Antarctica, and so we guiltily close our Pinterest tabs filled with pastel coloured place settings. But we at Mrs Fray believe that weddings aren’t a luxury as much as a necessity, and we all deserve a celebration to commemorate the big loves in our lives. We also believe that there’s a way to celebrate in a sustainable way that honours Mother Earth and Mothers In Law simultaneously.
The samples that have graced the racks at Mrs Fray since we opened in July this year have been the bread and butter of our business. These girls have been lovingly cared for and referred to by name since day one. They’ve been steamed, cleaned, and mended when they’ve been loved a bit too much. They have dawned the bodies of eager brides and helped women across the capital territory imagine themselves in their dream gown for go time.
So when you’re buying a sample, you are buying a dress in sample condition, meaning you won’t be receiving a poly lace gown in pristine ivory condition as you would at full price, straight out of the dress bag. But you are giving these samples another life and choosing a very sustainable option for yourself (and your budget - hey girl, hey!).

Nadia is a household favourite of ours, and we’ll tell you why. Firstly, she’s sporting a fuller skirt than you often see in the walls of Mrs Fray, so for the girl who wants a little more to twirl on a wedding day, she’s a great option. For having a fuller skirt, one might worry that all that fabric might make a girl look conservative when the adjective she was going for would’ve been ‘saucy’ instead. Have no fear, because the intrigue comes back with the same stunning low back as Valencia KWH, as well as an Angelina Jolie-esque slit up the front that helps you walk and lets you enjoy doing something fun with your shoes.

Speaking of Valencia, she’s got curves for days. In an AU Size 10, we love watching women approach the bum ruching on the hanger with caution, before absolutely falling in love with what it does for their backsides once it’s on the body. Valencia is romantic and can even be sold with optional sleeves that a wizard tailor could help you put in to totally change the look of the gown. Low back, v-neck, stunning train shape — there are 100 reasons we can’t get enough of Valencia.

Karina has got an edge to her that I love. She actually have one of the lowest cuts in the structure of the bust, but covered with a beautiful boat neck of stretch lace on top, she’s still a stunning frock you’re not embarrassed to wear next to your prudish Aunt Mae. She’s got classic features and shape with modern edge, in Karen’s signature style.

We’ve coined her “the magic dress” in store at Mrs Fray, because although the modern lace can be a pro or con for some while just on a hanger, once you get the Bobby gown on a bod, it’s not easy to contain your heart eyes. This dress has some kind of mystic power that needed a body underneath it to show its strength. The modern stretch lace is a great gateway lace for the bride who wasn’t sure she’d go lace or not. The way the geometric shapes make their way down the train is unbelievably beautiful and Bobby is well and truly a statement piece.

A classic stunner that ticks all the boxes for glam and the girl who wants a straight up party dress for her wedding day. Anya’s sequin beading shimmering and shining with every stride, a no fuss train, subtle spaghetti straps and a sweetheart neckline. We’ve seen ANYA become ‘the one’ for everything from elopements to 300 guest ballroom-dos, and she rocks it every time.

You want sleeves? You want glam? You want wow-factor? Well, you probably want Cassie. This gown is top-to-bottom fabulous with geometric beading that hails back to the era of Gatsby. The higher neckline is offset by the cut out back, and varied beading gives the curves on this gown beautiful elegance while you walk or stand. Cassie has captured the heart of so many of our Mrs Frays, and rightly so —she’s a stunner of a dress.

If sequin and sleeves were both on your hit list, but the high boat neck of Cassie isn’t tooting your horn, then Celine can be a beautiful option. With less dense beading than Cassie, Celine has a slightly lighter feel to her beady big sister, as she sports a v-neck back and front. Paired with a KWH signature beaded belt, the perfect completion to the beaded back is a raw silk, dainty little bow. Recently, as a bride was trying on Celine and confirming she was ‘the one’ for her, she starting singing My Heart Will Go On, and we couldn’t agree more with that sentiment!

The elegance of embroidered silk is rarely rivalled, and it’s hard to get more romantically whimsical than Piece 15A from L’eto Bridal. The sample of this gorgeous gown in store is a Size Small (8/10) with nude underlining and white embroidery on a sheer silk chiffon base. The wrap design flows beautifully with it’s brainless design and suits a myriad of romantic parties.

If you loved Piece 15A but didn’t think you were a sleeve girl, Piece 1B is for you. Still embroidered, beautiful silk chiffon, although this time the embroidered leaf pattern is in a warm silver thread. With a low, scoop back and no train, this is a no fuss, big serve of stunning whimsy.
